Samedi 24 janvier, Château-d’Œx s’est réveillée au rythme feutré des brûleurs et des salutations échangées dans l’air froid. Dès les premières heures, la place du village s’est remplie d’une foule compacte et attentive : familles emmitouflées, enfants les yeux levés, passionnés d’aéronautique et simples promeneurs venus partager ce moment d’hiver hors du temps.
La cérémonie officielle d’ouverture de la 46ᵉ édition du Festival International de Ballons a marqué un temps fort avec l’inauguration du nouveau ballon Château-d’Œx HB-BBI, saluée par de longs applaudissements. Dans une atmosphère à la fois festive et solennelle, les enveloppes colorées se sont lentement redressées, dessinant leurs silhouettes au pied des montagnes.
Moment particulièrement attendu : la présence de Bertrand Piccard, figure emblématique de l’aventure aéronautique. Accueilli chaleureusement par le public, le pionnier suisse a pris place à bord pour un vol très suivi, sous les regards admiratifs des spectateurs massés tout autour du terrain. Son envol, lent et majestueux, a donné au ciel de Château-d’Œx une dimension symbolique, entre héritage, innovation et passion du vol.

Wrapped in winter coats, families, breathless children, aviation enthusiasts and passing visitors converge on the launch field, where multicoloured shapes begin to emerge. Balloons in vivid hues slowly rise, filled by attentive, smiling pilots, anchoring in the cold air an atmosphere that is both festive and almost solemn.
A highlight marks the opening: the inauguration of the new Château-d’Œx HB-BBI balloon. Applause echoes, faces brighten, and as the first envelopes lift off, an almost reverent silence sweeps through the crowd. Then, like a shared breath, smiles appear, glances meet, conversations begin — the festival is underway.
This morning ritual blends tradition and emotion. In Château-d’Œx, far from the bustle of big cities, each take-off is experienced as a small victory, a moment of communion between locals and visitors, pilots and dreamers.
